The older I get, the easier this gets.

Looks like the Democrats version of the little baby Jesus is taking Dr. Dean to task now for his comments about the Republican party. Barack-a-meck-a-hi-meck-a-heidi-heidi-ho.

And what's this? More dissension in the ranks? Say it ain't so Nancy Pelosi.

Wait a second...

Dean, in an un-elected position, where everyone already associates him with "the sream" and general Democratic unreasonability, goes on TV and says something unreasonable.

Who steps up to call him out and sound reasonable other than the entire elected Democratic leadership? Who then stress that everyone, especially white Christians, are welcome in the Democtatic tent?

And who makes sure that everyone hears about this Democratic revolt of reasonability? All the right wingers in media and the blogosphere.

This may be genius...

Keep in mind the fact that voters are going to remember what gets the headlines. currently, Obama and Nancy aren't getting headlines. Victor von Dean is. Remember how 'well' Dan Quayle went over for the Republicans? Yeah, I thought you might. No, Dean isn't a VP, but he's public enough to make a serious dent into anything the Democrats do or say.

The voters nationwide may not, but 90% of politics are local. These are all folks who are going to need to contro the news cycle in their home districts (to either get re-elected or help someone else get elected) Every state where Democrats have high profile positions just set themselves up to have a reason to go on TV and say things everyone agrees with, starting with "Boy that Dean fella's got a big ol' mouth."

Now, I personally think stuff like this is a horrible idea. And it may not have been the plan at all, Dean may just have the proverbial alligator mouth. I'll still take him as chairman every day of the week. But if this -was- the plan it will 1) be very interesting to see what happens and 2) give mad props for news cycle control to those who thought it up, if it works.

This is one ridiculous aside, but please tell me "Victor von Dean" is some inside joke of your own creation based on some sideline joke.

I simply cannot fathom that, from the dank, prosaic abyss of the Republican blogosphere, no more appropriate moniker for Dr Dean has arisen.

Twelve monkies locked in a room with typewriters during a smoke break could come up with something more incisive and catchy: the man's name is Howard, dammit. Of all things, Howard!

naah, DVVD is my own creation. mainly from the fact that i've been seeing too many Fantastic 4 trailers lately. that, and i think it could only help his electability if he'd put on a mask and a hooded cape...
